Money for sale …

Beautiful business. You pay Tsh.1,000 (about $.60)in a bank note form and you receive Tsh.850 (about $.50) in coins. But this is what banks do, no? You pay them money only to receive less than what you paid! You will find most of these ‘mini-banks’ almost at every bus stage in Dar. Who are their main customers? Bus conductors who would need the coins to give change to passengers. But also some shop owners would go to ‘purchase’ the money for the purpose of having small denominations for change. Where do these ‘bankers’ get the coins? They collect them from individuals, where they pay Tsh.1,000 in bank note and they receive Tsh.1,000 in coins. They also obtain them from banks … So, in general, it is a business that employs hundreds if not thousands of youth in Dar es Salaam.
