The Green Belt Movement … brain child of the late Prof. Wangari Maathai. Over 50 million trees have been planted ever since she launched the movement way back in 1977.

Section of Uhuru Park in Nairobi. It is not many people who visit this wonderful place in Nairobi for a rest or any other reason who know that the late Prof Wangari Maathai had to fight very hard and tough battles against very powerful people (in the Moi regime) in order to preserve it in this state. One of the many wars over the area was against the construction of a 60-storey structure in the area. Had the structure been put up here … the Uhuru Park as we know it today, would never have been there. Africa’s first woman Nobel Laureate, Wangari Maathai, risked her life for the preservation. Message: Whenever you can and wherever you are … plant a tree in her honour, please! Let’s save Mother Earth, let’s save generations! Rest in peace Prof Wangari Maathai … you live on through the trees you planted and the movement you started.

  3. We will all miss her for the good work she did with the environment around her. Hope May the lord rest her soul in the eternal peace.
