Dar es Salaam: Rainy day nightmare …

leave a comment »

Roads get flooded with rain water … as the narrow drains get blocked by dirty and huge buildings raised on what once were ‘water paths’.

Thousands of Dar residents get stranded at bus stops … the brave ones decide to walk long distances under extreme weather conditions … the few lucky ones get themselves onto trucks and lorries … squeezed together … The ones who suffer the most are children (coming from school), women and the elderly. Traffic jams become a nightmare … people find themselves on the road for up to four hours … just to cover a 20km stretch or so …

Feeder roads also suffer … long queues stretch for kilometers deep into the feeder roads … At this point … it was a kilometer from the main road … vehicles moving at a snail’s pace ….

This is Bongo Darisalama! Haven of peace! Just a minute, imagine if we were to harvest all this water … would there ever be water shortage in Dar? What else do we want our God to do for us … he has given us everything … and we end up misappropriating them!
