Gongo la Mboto bomb blasts … a glimpse

with 14 comments

Lonely, tiresome, worrisome, long walks in the dead of the night … mighty women with mighty hearts in the company of very tiny toddlers, youngsters, the old and the sick … walking the night … resting by the road side … the young ones strapped to the back … This should never (have repeated) repeat again …

The ultimate goal … get to the furtherest point possible in anyway you can (Though from professional advice this was not at all necessary because the ‘biggest’ danger had passed).

Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Airport was closed for 15 hours … re-opened at 3.15pm on 17.02.2011.

Associated accidents … fallen electricity wires (fortunately the lines had fallen dead) … razing fire that consumed whatever it touched …

Being a political leader goes with symphasizing with the victims. Prof Ibrahim Lipumba, who contested the Presidential office in 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010 on the Civic United Front (CUF) ticket, taking a tour of the affected residential area …

Just a pile among many others of bombs that rained on Pugu Secondary School, the school where the Late Julius K. Nyerere once taught … at the time it was known as St Francis School. Staff members and students alike spent entire night in the sorrounding bushes … students with disabilities were the ones who faced the hardest of the times … as almost each soul was struggling to save itself …

One of the marks of the ‘work’ of the blasting bombs that rained on Pugu Secondary School …

Additional:

1. According to recent records, the blasts are second at the military barracks following the first (minor) that took place in 2004. Again this incident follows very closely the April 2009 similar incident that rocked the Mbagala suburb.

2. The country’s disaster preparedness programme is very weak (if not absent) … handling proved to be REACTIVE rather than PROACTIVE … the photos will tell you why.

3. It is important to ensure that there is a single commanding voice when it comes to giving instructions of what people should do and when … the media has to be used effectively to convey one central message … not contractory ones … important for commanding authority and receive the desired outcome.

4. While this incident is being handled and everyone recovering from the shock, our attention on key national issues (Dowans, the new constitution) should be kept very much vivid.

5. TANESCO should improve their efficiency during such incidents … once it takes place … they have to undertake a close inspection of their distribution grids to ensure that they are in order … electricity should be restored the soonest … no reason for people to wait longer than five (5) hours …

6. This should never repeat … pleeease!
My 2 cents.

Kwa kweli hatuwezi kurudisha maisha ya watu waliofariki dunia, but all we can do is help in anyway we can and comfort the affected citizens.

When it happened the first time in Mbagala, we can accept that it was an accident, but is this also accident? Really? This is not the time to throught out blames to each other, but we need to speak. We can not continue to keep quite, because of fear and just let These type of incidents keep happening over and over again, it is just NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL.

I hope that the victims at Uwanja wa Taifa, Uhuru and so on will be taken care of by the government in a propoer manner, with no curruption, discrimination or any of those, we should not let what happened in Mbagala to happen this time again.

Hebu this time tuwe na huruma ya kutosha. Lakini niiombe serikali, siyo tu kuunda tume ya kuchunguza halafu report iishie kapuni, kama ni for public sharing then watuambie, but the most important is to make sure that this incident does not happen again.

    • Peter. It’s tough. There are many questions than we can provide answers. Visiting the affected areas, speaking to the victims … we still need to do more than we have done so far …

Endelea.
