Shoprite … music with business

leave a comment »

DJ Ibra (one standing) along with a colleague as they were playing loud music at Shoprite Nyerere Road to attract more customers into the shopping mall. A simple question that crossed my mind is whether these shops and other business establishments do pay royalty for making use of the music they play. Of course, music, like many other works of art, has been an important ingredient in attracting more customers to businesses. Given this understanding … it is only right if such establishments pay royalties through the collection societies. In Tanzania, we have the Copyright Society of Tanzania (COSOTA). Hey Shoprite … pay your due royalties! i.e. if you have not been doing so.
