Msimbazi River Valley … a brief visit

leave a comment »

A cliff on one bank of a section of Msimbazi River.

Water, a natural force, at work.

Cliff. Erosion.

Erosion as the river meanders in its wide flood plain.

Houses sprouting up on a piece of land that resulted from river deposits on its former course.  This is extremely dangerous.

More houses crawling into the Msimbazi River flood plain.

And more houses.

Msimbazi River valley calls for further research and close monitoring for various reasons:

1. There is a need to find ways of controlling erosion along the river banks.

2. Policy makers need to come up very strongly and urge people not to build within the flood plain of the river. This should also include controlling of human activities that may be disastrous to the balancing in nature in the river valley.

3. There is need to protect the bio-diversity of the river valley. And may be more trees should be planted in the valley.
